First iPhone Trojan

A security firm has warned you to be on your guard against some malware circulating that is specially written for iPhone.

A Trojan horse claiming to be a preparatory package for a firmware update for the iPhone, calling itself “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep”, was spotted online over the weekend.

Security firm Symantec has said that though the Trojan doesn’t do an awful lot of damage, it certainly isn’t an official update and should not be installed.

According to the company it is uninstalling the package that causes the problems, as when it installs it overwrites some applications, leaving them unable to function properly when the malicious package is removed.

Orla Cox of Symantec said: “This is technically the first Trojan horse seen for the iPhone, however it does appear to be more of a prank than an actual threat. The impact of uninstalling the Trojan would appear to be an unintended side effect.
